BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER
brief history : Buffy the Vampire Slayer was created by Joss Whedon and aired in 1997.
It lasted for 7 seasons, ending in 2004. This show was expected to fail miserably since the movie (Buffy the Vampire
Slayer, directed by Fran Rubel Kuzui) it was based on was not a hit, however, the show turned unexpectactly popular and was
a big hit with everyone admiring Sarah Michelle Gellar as Buffy, the main character.
the beginning: Buffy, leading a fabulous life in LA, was a cheerleader, and the 'IT GIRL',
however when she was called to be a slayer (one who kills demonic things, defended with accelerated healing, and being stronger
than any human, and vampire) by her first watcher, Merrick, she could not believe it, but she changed her mind after a group
of vampires were going to kill her and her schoolmates at her school prom (Buffy fixed this by burning down her school gym,
where the prom was taking place). Her and her mother, Joyce Summers moved to Sunnydale, hoping to forget her past, but instead
at her first day in Sunnydale High, was reminded by Rupert Giles, the school librarian who knows about Buffy: how she is the
slayer, and reminds her about her duty (to kill vampires and protect the world from such horrid things).
Angel the Series
On Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Angel (David Boreanaz) the vampire with a soul, was such a big
hit, that fans protested when Angel left, in season 3. So, Joss Whedon created a spinoff show, which featured
David Boreanaz as the star. In this show, Angel moved to Los Angeles, and struggles with redemption, hoping
to struggle alone. However this is never the case, and Doyle was sent to help him fight evil, from the Powers That Be,
which he also reunites with one of Buffy's highschool friends, Cordelia Chase.
Since this show is a spinoff, there are many cross over episodes, in which case you might have to
watch both shows to find out what is going on in each. Many times you will see Buffy the Vampire Slayer's characters in Angel,
and vice versa.
